Inquiry:

What is your prime MEANS of communication? How many forms does it have?
How does the rhythm and gesture of lines that artists use in artworks affect our experience?

Objective:

·          Present and explore signatures as an example of how we communicate with line.

·          Present and explore the nuances and differences between Aesthetic Education, Arts Education, and Arts in Education as methods of communication through the arts.

·          Multiple Intelligences: Consider the ways in which the arts engage our multiple senses and modalities by effecting the ways in which we know and experience life.

THE LANGUAGE OF LINE:  MOVEMENT / SCRIBBLE  

… control, uncontrolled, repetition, emotional, conceptual, sequenced, straight and curved.

Activity:1  SIGNATURE DRAWINGS

-Draw your name.


--Make a list of words that DESCRIBE line qualities.


---ANALYZE relationship between different line situations.


----Sign your name under the influence of three different situations that involve different dispositions; angry, carefree, wistful, accurate.


-----From your three signatures, isolate a specific line quality for each disposition. (angular, frenzied, quite, chaotic, etc.)


-------Use these three different line qualities to make a portrait of your neighbor.  (try considering the relationship between the shape of the lines in your signature to the lines within the shapes in your face; angular eyebrows, curvy hair, almond eyes, -----

----------Reflect and INTERPRET the portraits as a group. How does the quality of lines effect the interpretation of the portraits?
