Today I want you to think
and how you can prepare a meaningful, motivating worksheet. I want you to learn some of the “tricks” we
can use to keep a child’s interest, and at the same time, help them structure
their thoughts. For example, the font I
am using for this paragraph is a serif font…which means that the letters
seemingly go together…notice how the words are not “really” individual letters,
but rather seem to “go into” each other.
This font, on the other
hand, is called a sans serif font.
Notice how each letter is discrete…it doesn’t really run into the other
letters in the word. Often if you want
something to stand out, you will use a sans serif font…when you want easier
reading, you will use a serif font. Both
of these fonts are 12 point.

Your assignment today is to
make a handout – admittedly this will be a cluttered handout because I want you
to include several things. You must
include a “WordArt” title, a textbox placed somewhere in the text, a
graphic (taken from either the
clipart files or imported from somewhere else), a callout, a symbol, a table, and a hyperlink. Any or all
of these little embellishments help you construct meaningful handouts. Now I know that this particular handout is
quite messy – but I want you to see all of the features that will make your
life as a teacher easier…and learning for your students more structured.
